There Is No Such Thing As A Perfect Customized Conservative Candidate For President

October 10, 2011

I’m writing to address a popular urban legend in conservatism. Many believe that a candidate for president exists who will agree with them 100% of the time.  Failure to agree 100% of the time will lead many to label a candidate as a “conservative in name only”.

Fellow conservatives, it’s time for some of us to grow up. A candidate for president isn’t like a custom ordered coffee at the coffee shop. You can’t have everything your way. You can’t throw a political temper tantrum if someone disagrees with you on a few points. You can’t dismiss someone as ‘conservative in name only’ if they are not in full agreement.

You can’t stay home on election day if some candidate disagrees with you on a few points. We lambaste liberals, and rightly so, for whining because life isn’t fair and ideal. Well guess what, politics isn’t always fair or ideal. Sometimes we have to be pragmatic and get as close to our ideals as is possible.

You may have to hold your nose for a few seconds in the ballot box, but isn’t that better than holding your nose for another four years as liberal policies creep further in our country?
